Genital itch in girls
Young girls may get a rash or complain of an itch in the genital area. This is usually a type of dermatitis rather than an infection.
The genital skin can be irritated by many common substances. These include soap, bubble bath and shampoo.
To help reduce the girl's symptoms these irritants should be avoided. She should also wear loose-fitting cotton underwear.
If the rash or itching persists the girl should be checked by a doctor. Sometimes a weak steroid ointment is needed to clear the dermatitis.
