Ecstasy
Ecstasy is related to amphetamines. These drugs are stimulants so they make people feel alert and full of energy.
The side effects of ecstasy can be severe. They include an abnormal heart rate, high blood pressure, dehydration and kidney failure. Sometimes people become ill because they drink too much water when trying to avoid dehydration.
Ecstasy can also cause psychiatric problems. A sense of depression, or a 'downer', is common after use. In the long term ecstasy may affect learning and memory.
Herbal ecstasy can also cause serious side effects.
Cocaine
Cocaine is a stimulant drug. As well as addiction, it can cause chest pains, heart attacks, strokes and fits.
